           ‘Wotareyoua-reachin’out,yourhandforthetumblerinthat‘eresawagewayfor?’saidSam,withgreatpromptitude.‘Don’tyouseeyou’vehitthegen’l’m’n?’

           ‘Ididn’tgotodoit,Sammy,’saidMr.Weller,insomedegreeabashedbytheveryunexpectedoccurrenceoftheincident.

           ‘Tryanin’ardapplication,sir,’saidSam,asthered-nosedgentlemanrubbedhisheadwitharuefulvisage.‘Wotdoyouthinko’that,foragoo’wanity,warm,Sir?’

           Mr.Stigginsmadenoverbalanswer,buthismannerwasexpressive.
