           "Wasn’thisnameFaria?"inquiredoneoftheofficerswhoaccompaniedthegovernor.

           "Yes,sir;and,ashesaid,itwasanancientname.Hewas,too,verylearned,andrationalenoughonallpointswhichdidnotrelatetohistreasure;butonthat,indeed,hewasintractable."

           "Itisthesortofmaladywhichwecallmonomania,"saidthedoctor.

           "Youhadneveranythingtocomplainof?"saidthegovernortothejailerwhohadchargeoftheabbe.

           "Never,sir,"repliedthejailer,"never;onthecontrary,hesometimesamusedmeverymuchbytellingmestories.Oneday,too,whenmywifewasill,hegavemeaprescriptionwhichcuredher."

           "Ah,ah!"saidthedoctor,"IdidnotknowthatIhadarival;butIhope,governor,thatyouwillshowhimallproperrespect.
