           “Ohyes!certainly,”criedFanny,risinginhaste,thehasteofembarrassmentandofwantingtogetaway—“Iwillwritedirectly.”

           Shewentaccordinglytothetable,whereshewasinthehabitofwritingforheraunt,andpreparedhermaterialswithoutknowingwhatintheworldtosay.ShehadreadMissCrawford’snoteonlyonce,andhowtoreplytoanythingsoimperfectlyunderstoodwasmostdistressing.
