           TheaspectwassofavourablethatevenwithoutafireitwashabitableinmanyanearlyspringandlateautumnmorningtosuchawillingmindasFanny’s;andwhiletherewasagleamofsunshineshehopednottobedrivenfromitentirely,evenwhenwintercame.Thecomfortofitinherhoursofleisurewasextreme.Shecouldgothereafteranythingunpleasantbelow,andfindimmediateconsolationinsomepursuit,orsometrainofthoughtathand.Herplants,herbooks—ofwhichshehadbeenacollectorfromthefirsthourofhercommandingashilling—herwriting-desk,andherworksofcharityandingenuity,wereallwithinherreach;orifindisposedforemployment,ifnothingbutmusingwoulddo,shecouldscarcelyseeanobjectinthatroomwhichhadnotaninterestingremembranceconnectedwithit.Everythingwasafriend,orboreherthoughtstoafriend;andthoughtherehadbeensometimesmuchofsufferingtoher;thoughhermotiveshadoftenbeenmisunderstood,herfeelingsdisregarded,andhercomprehensionundervalued;thoughshehadknownthepainsoftyranny,ofridicule,andneglect,yetalmosteveryrecurrenceofeitherhadledtosomethingconsolatory:herauntBertramhadspokenforher,orMissLeehadbeenencouraging,or,whatwasyetmorefrequentormoredear,Edmundhadbeenherchampionandherfriend:hehadsupportedhercauseorexplainedhermeaning,hehadtoldhernottocry,orhadgivenhersomeproofofaffectionwhichmadehertearsdelightful;andthewholewasnowsoblendedtogether,soharmonisedbydistance,thateveryformerafflictionhaditscharm.
