VardacommandedtheMoontojourneyinlikemanner,andpassingunderEarthtoariseintheeast,butonlyaftertheSunhaddescendedfromheaven.ButTilionwentwithuncertainpace,asyethegoes,andwasstilldrawntowardsArien,asheshalleverbe;sothatoftenbothmaybeseenabovetheEarthtogether,orattimesitwillchancethathecomessonighthathisshadowcutsoffherbrightnessandthereisadarknessamidtheday.
ThereforebythecomingandgoingofAnartheValarreckonedthedaysthereafteruntiltheChangeoftheWorld.
ForTiliontamedseldominValinor,butmoreoftenwouldpassswiftlyoverthewesternland,overAvathar,orAraman,orValinor,andplungeinthechasmbeyondtheOuterSea,pursuinghiswayaloneamidthegrotsandcavernsattherootsofArda.Therehewouldoftenwanderlong,andlatewouldreturn.
