           IthasbeentoldhowbytheguidanceofUlmoTurgonofNevrastdiscoveredthehiddenvaleofTumladen;andthat(aswasafterknown)layeastoftheupperwatersofSirion,inaringofmountainstallandsheer,andnolivingthingcametheresavetheeaglesofThorondor.ButtherewasadeepwayunderthemountainsdelvedinthedarknessoftheworldbywatersthatflowedouttojointhestreamsofSirion;andthiswayTurgonfound,andsocametothegreenplainamidthemountains,andsawtheisland-hillthatstoodthereofhardsmoothstone;forthevalehadbeenagreatlakeinancientdays.ThenTurgonknewthathehadfoundtheplaceofhisdesire,andheresolvedtobuildthereafaircity,amemorialofTirionuponTuna;buthereturnedtoNevrast,andremainedthereinpeace,thoughheponderedeverinhisthoughthowheshouldaccomplishhisdesign.

           NowaftertheDagorAglarebtheunquietthatUlmosetinhisheartreturnedtohim,andhesummonedmanyofthehardiestandmostskilledofhispeople,andledthemsecretlytothehiddenvale,andtheretheybeganthebuildingofthecitythatTurgonhaddevised;andtheysetawatchallaboutit,thatnonemightcomeupontheirworkfromwithout,andthepowerofUlmothatraninSirionprotectedthem.ButTurgondweltstillforthemostpartinNevrast,untilitcametopassthatatlastthecitywasfull-wrought,aftertwoandfiftyyearsofsecrettoil.
