ThenBerenandLuthienwentforthalone,fearingneitherthirstnorhunger;andtheypassedbeyondtheRiverGelionintoOssiriand,anddweltthereinTolGalenthegreenisle,inthemidstofAdurant,untilalltidingsofthemceased.TheEldarafterwardscalledthatcountryDorFirn-i-Guinar,theLandoftheDeadthatLive;andtherewasbornDiorAranelthebeautiful,whowasafterknownasDiorEluchil,whichisThingol’sHeir.NomortalmanspokeeveragainwithBerensonofBarahir;andnonesawBerenorLuthienleavetheworld,ormarkedwhereatlasttheirbodieslay.
InthosedaysMaedhrossonofFeanorlifteduphisheart,perceivingthatMorgothwasnotunassailable;forthedeedsofBerenandLuthienweresunginmanysongsthroughoutBeleriand.YetMorgothwoulddestroythemall,onebyone,iftheycouldnotagainunite,andmakenewleagueandcommoncouncil;andhebeganthosecounselsfortheraisingofthefortunesoftheEldarthatarecalledtheUnionofMaedhros.
