LittleisknownofthewanderingsoftheNandor,whomheledawaydownAnduin:some,itissaid,dweltage-longinthewoodsoftheValeoftheGreatRiver,somecameatlasttoitsmouthsandtheredweltbytheSea,andyetotherspassingbyEredNimrais,theWhiteMountains,camenorthagainandenteredthewildernessofEriadorbetweenEredLuinandthefarMountainsofMist.Nowthesewereawoodlandpeopleandhadnoweaponsofsteel,andthecomingofthefellbeastsoftheNorthfilledthemwithgreatfear,astheNaugrimdeclaredtoKingThingolinMenegroth.ThereforeDenethor,thesonofLenwe,hearingrumourofthemightofThingolandhismajesty,andofthepeaceofhisrealm,gatheredsuchhostofhisscatteredpeopleashecould,andledthemoverthemountainsintoBeleriand.TheretheywerewelcomedbyThingol,askinlonglostthatreturn,andtheydweltinOssiriand,theLandofSevenRivers.
OfthelongyearsofpeacethatfollowedafterthecomingofDenethorthereislittletale.Inthosedays,itissaid,DaerontheMinstrel,chiefloremasterofthekingdomofThingol,devisedhisRunes;andtheNaugrimthatcametoThingollearnedthem,andwerewell-pleasedwiththedevice,esteemingDaeron’sskillhigherthandidtheSindar,hisownpeople.BytheNaugrimtheCirthweretakeneastoverthemountainsandpassedintotheknowledgeofmanypeoples;buttheywerelittleusedbytheSindarforthekeepingofrecords,untilthedaysoftheWar,andmuchthatwasheldinmemoryperishedintheruinsofDoriath.Butofblissandgladlifethereislittletobesaid,beforeitends;asworksfairandwonderful,whilestilltheyendureforeyestosee,aretheirownrecord,andonlywhentheyareinperilorbrokenforeverdotheypassintosong.
