ThenSauronfailed,andhewasutterlyvanquishedandpassedawaylikeashadowofmalice;andthetowersofBarad-durcrumbledinruin,andattherumouroftheirfallmanylandstrembled.Thuspeacecameagain,andanewSpringopenedonearth;andtheHeirofIsildurwascrownedKingofGondorandArnor,andthemightoftheDunedainwasliftedupandtheirgloryrenewed.InthecourtsofMinasAnortheWhiteTreefloweredagain,foraseedlingwasfoundbyMithrandirinthesnowsofMindolluinthatrosetallandwhiteabovetheCityofGondor;andwhileitstillgrewtheretheElderDayswerenotwhollyforgottenintheheartsoftheKings.
NowallthesethingswereachievedforthemostpartbythecounselandvigilanceofMithrandir,andinthelastfewdayshewasrevealedasalordofgreatreverence,andcladinwhiteherodeintobattle;butnotuntilthetimecameforhimtodepartwasitknownthathehadlongguardedtheRedRingofFire.AtthefirstthatRinghadbeenentrustedtoCirdan,LordoftheHavens;buthehadsurrenderedittoMithrandir,forheknewwhencehecameandwhitheratlasthewouldreturn
