InallthedaysoftheThirdAge,afterthefallofGil-galad,MasterElrondabodeinImladris,andhegatheredtheremanyElves,andotherfolkofwisdomandpowerfromamongallthekindredsofMiddle-earth,andhepreservedthroughmanylivesofMenthememoryofallthathadbeenfair;andthehouseofElrondwasarefugeforthewearyandtheoppressed,andatreasuryofgoodcounselandwiselore.InthathousewereharbouredtheHeirsofIsildur,inchildhoodandoldage,becauseofthekinshipoftheirbloodwithElrondhimself,andbecauseheknewinhiswisdomthatoneshouldcomeoftheirlinetowhomagreatpartwasappointedinthelastdeedsofthatAge.AnduntilthattimecametheshardsofElendil’sswordweregivenintothekeepingofElrond,whenthedaysoftheDunedaindarkenedandtheybecameawanderingpeople.
InEriadorImladriswasthechiefdwellingoftheHighElves;butattheGreyHavensofLindonthereabodealsoaremnantofthepeopleofGil-galadtheElvenking.
