StillMinasTirithenduredafterthedaysofEarnur,sonofEarnil,andthelastKingofGondor.HeitwasthatrodealonetothegatesofMinasMorgultomeetthechallengeoftheMorgul-lord;andhemethiminsinglecombat,buthewasbetrayedbytheNazgulandtakenaliveintothecityoftorment,andnolivingmansawhimeveragain.NowEarnurleftnoheir,butwhenthelineoftheKingsfailedtheStewardsofthehouseofMardiltheFaithfulruledthecityanditsever-shrinkingrealm;andtheRohirrim,theHorsemenoftheNorth,cameanddweltinthegreenlandofRohan,whichbeforewasnamedCalenardhonandwasapartofthekingdomofCondor;andtheRohirrimaidedtheLordsoftheCityintheirwars.
