ThusendedtheSpringofArda.ThedwellingoftheValaruponAlmarenwasutterlydestroyed,andtheyhadnoabidingplaceuponthefaceoftheEarth.ThereforetheydepartedfromMiddle-earthandwenttotheLandofAman,thewesternmostofalllandsuponthebordersoftheworld;foritswestshoreslookedupontheOuterSea,thatiscalledbytheElvesEkkaia,encirclingtheKingdomofArda.HowwideisthatseanoneknowbuttheValar;andbeyonditaretheWallsoftheNight.ButtheeastshoresofAmanweretheuttermostendofBelegaer,theGreatSeaattheWest;andsinceMelkorwasreturnedtoMiddle-earthandtheycouldnotyetovercomehim,theValarfortifiedtheirdwelling,andupontheshoresoftheseatheyraisedthePelori,theMountainsofAman,highestuponEarth.AndaboveallthemountainsofthePeloriwasthatheightuponwhosesummitManwesethisthrone.TaniquetiltheElvesnamethatholymountain,andOiolosseEverlastingWhiteness,andElerrinaCrownedwithStars,andmanynamesbeside;buttheSindarspokeofitintheirlatertongueasAmonUilos.FromtheirhallsuponTaniquetilManweandVardacouldlookoutacrosstheEarthevenintothefurthestEast.
