Nonetoosoonwasthisdone;foraftertheassaulttheKingyieldedtoSauronandfelledtheWhiteTree,andturnedthenwhollyawayfromtheallegianceofhisfathers.ButSauroncausedtobebuiltuponthehillinthemidstofthecityoftheNumenoreans,ArmenelostheGolden,amightytemple;anditwasintheformofacircleatthebase,andtherethewallswerefiftyfeetinthickness,andthewidthofthebasewasfivehundredfeetacrossthecentre,andthewallsrosefromthegroundfivehundredfeet,andtheywerecrownedwithamightydome.Andthatdomewasroofedallwithsilver,androseglitteringinthesun,sothatthelightofitcouldbeseenafaroff;butsoonthelightwasdarkened,andthesilverbecameblack.Fortherewasanaltaroffireinthemidstofthetemple,andinthetopmostofthedometherewasalouver,whencethereissuedagreatsmoke.
