ThusitcametopassinthattimethattheNumenoreansfirstmadegreatsettlementsuponthewestshoresoftheancientlands;fortheirownlandseemedtothemshrunken,andtheyhadnorestorcontenttherein,andtheydesirednowwealthanddominioninMiddle-earth,sincetheWestwasdenied.Greatharboursandstrongtowerstheymade,andtheremanyofthemtookuptheirabode;buttheyappearednowratheraslordsandmastersandgatherersoftributethanashelpersandteachers.AndthegreatshipsoftheNumenoreanswereborneeastonthewindsandreturnedeverladen,andthepowerandmajestyoftheirkingswereincreased;andtheydrankandtheyfeastedandtheycladthemselvesinsilverandgold.
