TothesetheValarhadgivenalandandadwelling-place.EvenamongtheradiantflowersoftheTree-litgardensofValinortheylongedstillattimestoseethestars;andthereforeagapwasmadeinthegreatwallsofthePelori,andthereinadeepvalleythatrandowntotheseatheEldarraisedahighgreenhill:Tunaitwascalled.FromthewestthelightoftheTreesfelluponit,anditsshadowlayevereastward;andtotheeastitlookedtowardstheBayofElvenhome,andtheLonelyIsle,andtheShadowySeas.ThenthroughCalacirya,thePassofLight,theradianceoftheBlessedRealmstreamedforth,kindlingthedarkwavestosilverandgold,andittouchedtheLonelyIsle,anditswesternshoregrewgreenandfair.TherebloomedthefirstflowersthateverwereeastoftheMountainsofAman.
UponthecrownofTunathecityoftheElveswasbuilt,thewhitewallsandterracesofTirion;andthehighestofthetowersofthatcitywastheTowerofIngwe,MindonEldalieva,whosesilverlampshonefaroutintothemistsofthesea.FewaretheshipsofmortalMenthathaveseenitsslenderbeam.InTirionuponTunatheVanyarandtheNoldordweltlonginfellowship.AndsinceofallthingsinValinortheylovedmosttheWhiteTree,YavannamadeforthematreeliketoalesserimageofTelperion,savethatitdidnotgivelightofitsownbeing;GalathilionitwasnamedintheSindarintongue.ThistreewasplantedinthecourtsbeneaththeMindonandthereflourished,anditsseedlingsweremanyinEldamar.
