ThesethingstookplaceinthedaysofTar-CiryatantheShipbuilder,andofTar-Atanamirhisson;andtheywereproudmen,eagerforwealth,andtheylaidthemenofMiddle-earthundertribute,takingnowratherthangiving.ItwastoTar-AtanamirthattheMessengerscame;andhewasthethirteenthKing,andinhisdaytheRealmofNumenorhadenduredformorethantwothousandyears,andwascometothezenithofitsbliss,ifnotyetofitspower.ButAtanamirwasillpleasedwiththecounseloftheMessengersandgavelittleheedtoit,andthegreaterpartofhispeoplefollowedhim;fortheywishedstilltoescapedeathintheirownday,notwaitinguponhope.
