ButManweputforthMorgothandshuthimbeyondtheWorldintheVoidthatiswithout;andhecannothimselfreturnagainintotheWorld,presentandvisible,whiletheLordsoftheWestarestillenthroned.Yettheseedsthathehadplantedstillgrewandsprouted,bearingevilfruit,ifanywouldtendthem.Forhiswillremainedandguidedhisservants,movingthemevertothwartthewilloftheValarandtodestroythosethatobeyedthem.ThistheLordsoftheWestknewfullwell.WhenthereforeMorgothhadbeenthrustforth,theyheldcouncilconcerningtheagesthatshouldcomeafter.TheEldartheysummonedtoreturnintotheWest,andthosethathearkenedtothesummonsdweltintheIsleofEressea;andthereisinthatlandahaventhatisnamedAvallone,foritisofallcitiesthenearesttoValinor,andthetowerofAvalloneisthefirstsightthatthemarinerbeholdswhenatlasthedrawsnightotheUndyingLandsovertheleaguesoftheSea.TotheFathersofMenofthethreefaithfulhousesrichrewardalsowasgiven.
