OrometarriedawhileamongtheQuendi,andthenswiftlyherodebackoverlandandseatoValinorandbroughtthetidingstoValmar;andhespokeoftheshadowsthattroubledCuivienen.ThentheValarrejoiced,andyettheywereindoubtamidtheirjoy;andtheydebatedlongwhatcounselitwerebesttotakefortheguardingoftheQuendifromtheshadowofMelkor.ButOromereturnedatoncetoMiddle-earthandabodewiththeElves.
ManwesatlonginthoughtuponTaniquetil,andhesoughtthecounselofIluvatar.AndcomingthendowntoValmarhesummonedtheValartotheRingofDoom,andthithercameevenUlmofromtheOuterSea.
ThenManwesaidtotheValar:’ThisisthecounselofIluvatarinmyheart:thatweshouldtakeupagainthemasteryofArda,atwhatsoevercost,anddelivertheQuendifromtheshadowofMelkor.’ThenTulkaswasglad;butAulewasgrieved,forebodingthehurtsoftheworldthatmustcomeofthatstrife.ButtheValarmadereadyandcameforthfromAmaninstrengthofwar,resolvingtoassaultthefortressesofMelkorandmakeanend.NeverdidMelkorforgetthatthiswarwasmadeforthesakeoftheElves,andthattheywerethecauseofhisdownfall.Yettheyhadnopartinthosedeeds,andtheyknowlittleoftheridingofthemightoftheWestagainsttheNorthinthebeginningoftheirdays.
