TherewassmalllovebetweentheEdainandtheEasterlings,andtheymetseldom;forthenewcomersabodelonginEastBeleriand,butHador’sfolkwereshutinHithlum,andBeer’shousewaswell-nighdestroyed.ThePeopleofHalethwereatfirstuntouchedbythenorthernwar,fortheydwelttothesouthwardintheForestofBrethil;butnowtherewasbattlebetweenthemandtheinvadingOrcs,fortheywerestout-heartedmenandwouldnotlightlyforsakethewoodsthattheyloved.
