ForthewarhadgoneillwiththesonsofFeanor,andwellnighalltheeastmarchesweretakenbyassaultThePassofAglonwasforced,thoughwithgreatcosttothehostsofMorgoth;andCelegormandCurufinbeingdefeatedfledsouthandwestbythemarchesofDoriath,andcomingatlasttoNargothrondsoughtharbourwithFinrodFelagund.ThusitcametopassthattheirpeopleswelledthestrengthofNargothrond;butitwouldhavebeenbetter,aswasafterseen,iftheyhadremainedintheeastamongtheirownkin.
