InthefrontofthatfirecameGlaurungthegolden,fatherofdragons,inhisfullmight;andinhistrainwereBalrogs,andbehindthemcametheblackarmiesoftheOrcsinmultitudessuchastheNoldorhadneverbeforeseenorimagined.AndtheyassaultedthefortressesoftheNoldor,andbroketheleagueraboutAngband,andslewwherevertheyfoundthemtheNoldorandtheirallies.Grey-elvesandMen.ManyofthestoutestofthefoesofMorgothweredestroyedinthefirstdaysofthatwar,bewilderedanddispersedandunabletomustertheirstrength.WarceasednotwhollyeveragaininBeleriand;buttheBattleofSuddenFlameisheldtohaveendedwiththecomingofspring,whentheonslaughtofMorgothgrewless.
ThusendedtheSiegeofAngband;andthefoesofMorgothwerescatteredandsunderedonefromanother.
