           ThisdugongwhichNedLandwaspreparingtoattackwasofcolossaldimensions;itwasmorethansevenyardslong.Itdidnotmove,andseemedtobesleepingonthewaves,whichcircumstancemadeiteasiertocapture.

           "No,"saidI;"thecreatureiswoundedlookattheblood;butyourweaponhasnotstuckinhisbody."

           "Myharpoon!myharpoon!"criedNedLand.

           Thesailorsrowedon,andthecoxswainmadeforthefloatingbarrel.Theharpoonregained,wefollowedinpursuitoftheanimal.

           Thelattercamenowandthentothesurfacetobreathe.Itswoundhadnotweakenedit,foritshotonwardswithgreatrapidity.
