           Itwasthusthat,eitherbyoverloadingherreservoirsorbydescendingobliquelybymeansofherinclinedplanes,theNautilussuccessivelyattainedthedepthofthree,four,five,seven,nine,andtenthousandyards,andthedefiniteresultofthisexperiencewasthattheseapreservedanaveragetemperatureoffourdegreesandahalfatadepthoffivethousandfathomsunderalllatitudes.
