           Edmondwaitedtilllifeseemedextinctinthebodyofhisfriend,then,takinguptheknife,hewithdifficultyforcedopenthecloselyfixedjaws,carefullyadministeredtheappointednumberofdrops,andanxiouslyawaitedtheresult.Anhourpassedawayandtheoldmangavenosignofreturninganimation.Dantesbegantofearhehaddelayedtoolongereheadministeredtheremedy,and,thrustinghishandsintohishair,continuedgazingonthelifelessfeaturesofhisfriend.
