Inthedeepplaceshegivesthoughttomusicgreatandterrible;andtheechoofthatmusicrunsthroughalltheveinsoftheworldinsorrowandinjoy;foritjoyfulisthefountainthatrisesinthesun,itsspringsareinthewellsofsorrowunfathomedatthefoundationsoftheEarth.TheTelerilearnedmuchofUlmo,andforthisreasontheirmusichasbothsadnessandenchantment.SalmarcamewithhimtoArda,hewhomadethehornsofUlmothatnonemayeverforgetwhooncehasheardthem;andOsseandUinenalso,towhomhegavethegovernmentofthewavesandthemovementsoftheInnerSeas,andmanyotherspiritsbeside.AndthusitwasbythepowerofUlmothatevenunderthedarknessofMelkorlifecoursedstillthroughmanysecretlodes,andtheEarthdidnotdie;andtoallwhowerelostinthatdarknessorwanderedfarfromthelightoftheValartheearofUlmowaseveropen;norhasheeverforsakenMiddle-earth,andwhatsoevermaysincehavebefallenofruinorofchangehehasnotceasedtotakethoughtforit,andwillnotuntiltheendofdays.
AndinthattimeofdarkYavannaalsowasunwillingutterlytoforsaketheOuterLands;forallthingsteatgrowaredeartoher,andshemournedfortheworksthatshehadbeguninMiddle-earthbutMelkorhadmarred.ThereforeleavingthehouseofAuleandthefloweringmeadsofValinorshewouldcomeattimesandhealthehurtsofMelkor;andreturningshewouldeverurgetheValartothatwarwithhisevildominionthattheymustsurelywageerethecomingofdieFirstborn.AndOrometamerofbeastswouldridetooatwhilesinthedarknessoftheunlitforests;asamightyhunterhecamewithspearandbow,pursuingtothedeaththemonstersandfellcreaturesofthekingdomofMelkor,andhiswhitehorseNaharshonelikesilverintheshadows.
