InthattimethoseoftheNumenoreanswhoweresavedfromdestructionfledeastward,asistoldintheAkallabeth.ThechiefofthesewereElendiltheTallandhissons,IsildurandAnarion.KinsmenoftheKingtheywere,descendantsofElros,buttheyhadbeenunwillingtolistentoSauron,andhadrefusedtomakewarontheLordsoftheWest.ManningtheirshipswithallwhoremainedfaithfultheyforsookthelandofNumenorereruincameuponit.Theyweremightymenandtheirshipswerestrongandtall,butthetempestsovertookthem,andtheywerebornealoftonhillsofwatereventotheclouds,andtheydescendeduponMiddle-earthlikebirdsofthestorm.
ElendilwascastupbythewavesinthelandofLindon,andhewasbefriendedbyGil-galad.ThencehepasseduptheRiverLhun,andbeyondEredLuinheestablishedhisrealm,andhispeopledweltinmanyplacesinEriadoraboutthecoursesoftheLhunandtheBaranduin;buthischiefcitywasatAnnuminasbesidethewaterofLakeNenuial.
