Menprovedeasiertoensnare.ThosewhousedtheNineRingsbecamemightyintheirday,kings,sorcerers,andwarriorsofold.Theyobtainedgloryandgreatwealth,yetitturnedtotheirundoing.Theyhad,asitseemed,unendinglife,yetlifebecameunendurabletothem.Theycouldwalk,iftheywould,unseenbyalleyesinthisworldbeneaththesun,andtheycouldseethingsinworldsinvisibletomortalmen;buttoooftentheybeheldonlythephantomsanddelusionsofSauron.Andonebyone,soonerorlater,accordingtotheirnativestrengthandtothegoodoreviloftheirwillsinthebeginning,theyfellunderthethraldomoftheringthattheyboreandunderthedominationoftheOne,whichwasSauron’s.AndtheybecameforeverinvisiblesavetohimthatworetheRulingRing,andtheyenteredintotherealmofshadows.
