IntheGreatBattleandthetumultsofthefallofThangorodrimthereweremightyconvulsionsintheearth,andBeleriandwasbrokenandlaidwaste;andnorthwardandwestwardmanylandssankbeneaththewatersoftheGreatSea.Intheeast,inOssiriand,thewallsofEredLuinwerebroken,andagreatgapwasmadeinthemtowardsthesouth,andagulfoftheseaflowedin.IntothatgulftheRiverLhunfellbyanewcourse,anditwascalledthereforetheGulfofLhun.ThatcountryhadofoldbeennamedLindonbytheNoldor,andthisnameitborethereafter;andmanyoftheEldarstilldweltthere,lingering,unwillingyettoforsakeBeleriandwheretheyhadfoughtandlabouredlong.Gil-galadsonofFingonwastheirking,andwithhimwasElrondHalf-elven,sonofEarendiltheMarinerandbrotherofElrosfirstkingofNumenor.
