’Andwhatshallthatdesignbe?’saidElendil.
’Tomeddlenotinthewar,andtowatch,’answeredAmandil.’UntilIreturnIcansaynomore.ButitismostlikethatyoushallflyfromtheLandoftheStarwithnostartoguideyou;forthatlandisdefiled.Thenyoushallloseallthatyouhaveloved,foretastingdeathinlife,seekingalandofexileelsewhere.ButeastorwesttheValaralonecansay.’

ItissaidthatAmandilsetsailinasmallshipatnight,andsteeredfirsteastward,andthenwentaboutandpassedintothewest.Andhetookwithhimthreeservants,deartohisheart,andneveragainweretheyheardofbywordorsigninthisworld,noristhereanytaleorguessoftheirfate.
