NowtheElendilidweltmostlyinthewesternregionsofNumenor;butAr-Gimilzorcommandedallthathecoulddiscovertobeofthispartytoremovefromthewestanddwellintheeastoftheland;andtheretheywerewatched.AndthechiefdwellingoftheFaithfulinthelaterdayswasthusnightotheharbourofRomenna;thencemanysetsailtoMiddle-earth,seekingthenortherncoastswheretheymightspeakstillwiththeEldarinthekingdomofGil-galad.Thiswasknowntothekings,buttheyhindereditnot,solongastheElendilidepartedfromtheirlandanddidnotreturn;fortheydesiredtoendallfriendshipbetweenthen:peopleandtheEldarofEressea,whomtheynamedtheSpiesoftheValar,hopingtokeeptheirdeedsandtheircounselshiddenfromtheLordsoftheWest.ButallthattheydidwasknowntoManwe,andtheValarwerewrothwiththeKingsofNumenor,andgavethemcounselandprotectionnomore;andtheshipsofEresseacameneveragainoutofthesunset,andthehavensofAnduniewereforlorn.
HighestinhonourafterthehouseofthekingsweretheLordsofAndunie;fortheywereofthelineofElros,beingdescendedfromSilmarien,daughterofTar-ElendilthefourthkingofNumenor.Andtheselordswereloyaltothekings,andreveredthem;andtheLordofAnduniewaseveramongthechiefcouncillorsoftheSceptre.YetalsofromthebeginningtheyboreespeciallovetotheEldarandreverencefortheValar;andastheShadowgrewtheyaidedtheFaithfulastheycould.
