FortheDunedainbecamemightyincrafts,sothatiftheyhadhadthemindtheycouldeasilyhavesurpassedtheevilkingsofMiddle-earthinthemakingofwarandtheforgingofweapons;buttheywerebecomemenofpeace.
Aboveallartstheynourishedshipbuildingandsea-craft,andtheybecamemarinerswhoselikeshallneverbeagainsincetheworldwasdiminished;andvoyaginguponthewideseaswasthechieffeatandadventureoftheirhardymeninthegallantdaysoftheiryouth.
ButtheLordsofValinorforbadethemtosailsofarwestwardthatthecoastsofNumenorcouldnolongerbeseen;andforlongtheDunedainwerecontent,thoughtheydidnotfullyunderstandthepurposeofthisban.ButthedesignofManwewasthattheNumenoreansshouldnotbetemptedtoseekfortheBlessedRealm,nordesiretooverpassthelimitssettotheirbliss,becomingenamouredoftheimmortalityoftheValarandtheEldarandthelandswhereallthingsendure.
