Inwatertheyhadgreatdelight,andthosethatcameatlasttothewesternshoreswereenamouredofthesea.TheSea-elvesthereforetheybecameinthelandofAman,theFalmari,fortheymademusicbesidethebreakingwaves.Twolordstheyhad,fortheirnumbersweregreat:ElweSingollo(whichsignifiesGreymantle)andOlwehisbrother.
ThesewerethethreekindredsoftheEldalie,whopassingatlengthintotheuttermostWestinthedaysoftheTreesarecalledtheCalaquendi,ElvesoftheLight.ButothersoftheEldartherewerewhosetoutindeeduponthewestwardmarch,butbecamelostuponthelongroad,orturnedaside,orlingeredontheshoresofMiddle-earth;andthesewereforthemostpartofthekindredoftheTeleri,asistoldhereafter.Theydweltbytheseaorwanderedinthewoodsandmountainsoftheworld,yettheirheartswereturnedtowardstheWest.ThoseElvestheCalaquendicalltheUmanyar,sincetheycamenevertothelandofAmanandtheBlessedRealm;buttheUmanyarandtheAvarialiketheycalltheMoriquendi,ElvesoftheDarkness,fortheyneverbeheldtheLightthatwasbeforetheSunandMoon.
ItistoldthatwhenthehostsoftheEldaliedepartedfromCuivienenOromerodeattheirheaduponNahar,hiswhitehorseshodwithgold;andpassingnorthwardabouttheSeaofHelcartheyturnedtowardsthewest.BeforethemgreatcloudshungstillblackintheNorthabovetheruinsofwar,andthestarsinthatregionwerehidden.Thennotafewgrewafraidandrepented,andturnedback,andareforgotten.LongandslowwasthemarchoftheEldarintothewest,fortheleaguesofMiddle-earthwereuncounted,andwearyandpathless.
