ItistoldthatHuanpursuedthesonsofFeanor,andtheyfledinfear;andreturninghebroughttoLuthienaherboutoftheforest.WiththatleafhestaunchedBeren’swound,andbyherartsandbyherloveshehealedhim;andthusatlasttheyreturnedtoDoriath.ThereBeren,beingtornbetweenhisoathandhislove,andknowingLuthientobenowsafe,aroseonemorningbeforethesun,andcommittedhertothecareofHuan;theningreatanguishhedepartedwhilesheyetsleptuponthegrass.
HerodenorthwardagainwithallspeedtothePassofSirion,andcomingtotheskirtsofTaur-nu-FuinhelookedoutacrossthewasteofAnfauglithandsawafarthepeaksofThangorodrim.TherehedismissedthehorseofCurufin,andbadeitleavenowdreadandservitudeandrunfreeuponthegreengrassinthelandsofSirion.ThenbeingnowaloneanduponthethresholdofthefinalperilhemadetheSongofParting,inpraiseofLuthienandthelightsofheaven;forhebelievedthathemustnowsayfarewelltobothloveandlight.Ofthatsongthesewordswerepart:
