           BeforethemlaythefencesofDoriath,andsouthwardlaySirionanditsimpassablefens.ThereforeJthekingsofthethreehousesoftheNoldor,seeinghopetofstrengthinthesonsofMen,sentwordthatanyoftheEdainthatwishedmightremoveandcometodwellamongtheirpeople.InthiswaythemigrationoftheEdainbegan:atfirstlittlebylittle,butlaterinfamiliesandkindreds,theyaroseandleftEstolad,untilaftersomefiftyyearsmanythousandshadenteredthelandsoftheKings.Mostofthesetookthelongroadnorthwards,untilthewaysbecamewellknowntothem.ThepeopleofBeorcametoDorthonionanddweltinlandsruledbythehouseofFinarfin.ThepeopleofAradan(forMarachhisfatherremainedinEstoladuntilhisdeath)forthemostpartwentonwestward;andsomecametoHithlum,butMagorsonofAradanandmanyofthepeoplepasseddownSirionintoBeleriandanddweltawhileinthevalesofthesouthernslopesofEredWethrin.

           ItissaidthatinallthesemattersnonesaveFinrodFelagundtookcounselwithKingThingol,andhewasillpleased,bothforthatreason,andbecausehewastroubledbydreamsconcerningthecomingofMen,ereeverthefirsttidingsofthemwereheard.ThereforehecommandedthatMenshouldtakenolandstodwellinsaveinthenorth,andthattheprinceswhomtheyservedshouldbeanswerableforallthattheydid;andhesaid:’IntoDoriathshallnoMancomewhilemyrealmlasts,noteventhoseofthehouseofBeorwhoserveFinrodthebeloved.
