LongFelagundwatchedthem,andloveforthemstirredinhisheart;butheremainedhiddeninthetreesuntiltheyhadallfallenasleep.Thenhewentamongthesleepingpeople,andsatbesidetheirdyingfirewherenonekeptwatch;andhetookuparudeharpwhichBeorhadlaidaside,andheplayedmusicuponitsuchastheearsofMenhadnotheard;fortheyhadasyetnoteachersintheart,saveonlytheDarkElvesinthewildlands.
NowmenawokeandlistenedtoFelagundasheharpedandsang,andeachthoughtthathewasinsomefairdream,untilhesawthathisfellowswereawakealsobesidehim;buttheydidnotspeakorstirwhileFelagundstillplayed,becauseofthebeautyofthemusicandthewonderofthesong.WisdomwasinthewordsoftheElven-king,andtheheartsgrewwiserthathearkenedtohim;forthethingsofwhichhesang,ofthemakingofArda,andtheblissofAmanbeyondtheshadowsoftheSea,cameasclearvisionsbeforetheireyes,andhisElvishspeechwasinterpretedineachmindaccordingtoitsmeasure.
ThusitwasthatMencalledKingFelagund,whomtheyfirstmetofalltheEldar,Nom,thatisWisdom,inthelanguageofthatpeople,andafterhimtheynamedhisfolkNomin,theWise.IndeedtheybelievedatfirstthatFelagundwasoneoftheValar,ofwhomtheyhadheardrumourthattheydweltfarintheWest;andthiswas(somesay)thecauseoftheirjourneying.ButFelagunddweltamongthemandtaughtthemtrueknowledge,andtheylovedhim,andtookhimfortheirlord,andwereeverafterloyaltothehouseofFinarfin.
