ThenUlmoreturnedtothesea,andTurgonsentforthallhispeople,eventoathirdpartoftheNoldorofFingolfin’sfollowing,andayetgreaterhostoftheSindar;andtheypassedaway,companybycompany,secretly,undertheshadowsofEredWethrin,andtheycameunseentoGondolin,andnoneknewwhithertheyhadgone.AndlastofallTurgonarose,andwentwithhishouseholdsilentlythroughthehills,andpassedthegatesinthemountains,andtheywereshutbehindhim.
Throughmanylongyearsnonepassedinwardthereafter,saveHurinandHuoronly;andthehostofTurgoncameneverforthagainuntiltheYearofLamentationafterthreehundredandfiftyyearsandmore.ButbehindthecircleofthemountainsthepeopleofTurgongrewandthrove,andtheyputforththeirskillinlabourunceasing,sothatGondolinuponAmonGwarethbecamefairindeedandfittocompareevenwithElvenTirionbeyondthesea.Highandwhitewereitswalls,andsmoothitsstairs,andtallandstrongwastheToweroftheKing.Thereshiningfountainsplayed,andinthecourtsofTurgonstoodimagesoftheTreesofold,whichTurgonhimselfwroughtwithelven-craft;andtheTreewhichhemadeofgoldwasnamedGlingal,andtheTreewhoseflowershemadeofsilverwasnamedBelthil.ButfairerthanallthewondersofGondolinwasIdril,Turgon’sdaughter,shethatwascalledCelebrindal,theSilver-foot,whosehairwasasthegoldofLaurelinbeforethecomingofMelkor.
