Fingonwongreatpraise,andtheNoldorrejoiced;forfewforesawthefullmeaningandthreatofthisnewthing.ButMorgothwasill-pleasedthatGlaurunghaddisclosedhimselfover-soon;andafterhisdefeattherewastheLongPeaceofwellnightwohundredyears.Inallthattimetherewerebutaffraysonthemarches,andallBeleriandprosperedandgrewrich.BehindtheguardoftheirarmiesinthenorththeNoldorbuilttheirdwellingsandtheirtowers,andmanyfairthingstheymadeinthosedays,andpoemsandhistoriesandbooksoflore.InmanypartsofthelandtheNoldorandtheSindarbecameweldedintoonepeople,andspokethesametongue;thoughthisdifferenceremainedbetweenthem,thattheNoldorhadthegreaterpowerofmindandbody.andwerethemightierwarriorsandsages,andtheybuiltwithstone,andlovedthehill-slopesandopenlands.ButtheSindarhadthefairervoicesandweremoreskilledinmusic,saveonlyMaglorsonofFeanor,andtheylovedthewoodsandtheriversides;andsomeoftheGrey-elvesstillwanderedfarandwidewithoutsettledabode,andtheysangastheywent.
