Hisbodyrecoveredfromhistormentandbecamehale,buttheshadowofhispainwasinhisheart;andhelivedtowieldhisswordwithlefthandmoredeadlythanhisrighthadbeen.BythisdeedFingonwongreatrenown,andalltheNoldorpraisedhim;andthehatredbetweenthehousesofFingolfinandFeanorwasassuaged.ForMaedhrosbeggedforgivenessforthedesertioninAraman;andhewaivedhisclaimtokingshipoveralltheNoldor,sayingtoFingolfin:’Iftherelaynogrievancebetweenus,lord,stillthekingshipwouldrightlycometoyou,theeldesthereofthehouseofFinwe,andnottheleastwise.’Buttothishisbrothersdidnotallintheirheartsagree.
ThereforeevenasMandosforetoldtheHouseofFeanorwerecalledtheDispossessed,becausetheover-lordshippassedfromit,theelder,tothehouseofFingolfin,bothinElendeandinBeleriand,andbecausealsoofthelossoftheSilmarils.ButtheNoldorbeingagainunitedsetawatchuponthebordersofDorDaedeloth,andAngbandwasbeleagueredfromwest,andsouth,andeast;andtheysentforthmessengersfarandwidetoexplorethecountriesofBeleriand,andtotreatwiththepeoplethatdweltthere.
NowKingThingolwelcomednotwithafullheartthecomingofsomanyprincesinmightoutoftheWest,eagerfornewrealms;andhewouldnotopenhiskingdom,norremoveitsgirdleofenchantment,forwisewiththewisdomofMelianhetrustednotthattherestraintofMorgothwouldendure.
