           Infiveortenminutestherewasanothertapatthedoor.Liddyreappeared,andcominginalittlewaystoodhesitating,untilatlengthshesaid,"Maryannhasjustheardsomethingverystrange,butIknowitisn’ttrue.Andweshallbesuretoknowtherightsofitinadayortwo."

           "Whatisit?"

           "Oh,nothingconnectedwithyouorus,ma’am.ItisaboutFanny.Thatsamethingyouhaveheard."

           "ImeanthatawickedstoryisgottoWeatherburywithinthislasthourthat"Liddycameclosetohermistressandwhisperedtheremainderofthesentenceslowlyintoherear,incliningherheadasshespokeinthedirectionoftheroomwhereFannylay.
