           BathshebalovedTroyinthewaythatonlyself-reliantwomenlovewhentheyabandontheirself-reliance.Whenastrongwomanrecklesslythrowsawayherstrengthsheisworsethanaweakwomanwhohasneverhadanystrengthtothrowaway.Onesourceofherinadequacyisthenoveltyoftheoccasion.Shehasneverhadpracticeinmakingthebestofsuchacondition.Weaknessisdoublyweakbybeingnew.

           Bathshebawasnotconsciousofguileinthismatter.Thoughinonesenseawomanoftheworld,itwas,afterall,thatworldofdaylightcoteriesandgreencarpetswhereincattleformthepassingcrowdandwindsthebusyhum;whereaquietfamilyofrabbitsorhareslivesontheothersideofyourparty-wall,whereyourneighbouriseverybodyinthetything,andwherecalculationisconfinedtomarket-days.
