AsdarknessfellHurinstumbledfromtherock,andfellintoaheavysleepofgrief.ButinhissleepheheardthevoiceofMorwenlamenting,andoftenshespokehisname;anditseemedtohimthathervoicecameoutofBrethil.
Thereforewhenheawokewiththecomingofdayhearose,andwentbacktotheBrithiach;andpassingalongtheeavesofBrethilhecameatatimeofnighttotheCrossingsofTeiglin.Thenight-sentinelssawhim,buttheywerefilledwithdread,fortheythoughtthattheysawaghostoutofsomeancientbattle-moundthatwalkedwithdarknessaboutit;andthereforeHurinwasnotstayed,andhecameatlasttotheplaceoftheburningofGlaurung,andsawthetallstonestandingnearthebrinkofCabedNaeramarth.
ButHurindidnotlookatthestone,forheknewwhatwaswrittenthere;andhiseyeshadseenthathewasnotalone.Sittingintheshadowofthestonetherewasawoman,bentoverherknees;andasHurinstoodtheresilentshecastbackhertatteredhoodandliftedherface.
