           Mr.DickandIsoonbecamethebestoffriends,andveryoften,whenhisday’sworkwasdone,wentouttogethertoflythegreatkite.EverydayofhislifehehadalongsittingattheMemorial,whichnevermadetheleastprogress,howeverhardhelaboured,forKingCharlestheFirstalwaysstrayedintoit,soonerorlater,andthenitwasthrownaside,andanotheronebegun.Thepatienceandhopewithwhichheboretheseperpetualdisappointments,themildperceptionhehadthattherewassomethingwrongaboutKingCharlestheFirst,thefeebleeffortshemadetokeephimout,andthecertaintywithwhichhecamein,andtumbledtheMemorialoutofallshape,madeadeepimpressiononme.WhatMr.DicksupposedwouldcomeoftheMemorial,ifitwerecompleted;wherehethoughtitwastogo,orwhathethoughtitwastodo;heknewnomorethananybodyelse,Ibelieve.Norwasitatallnecessarythatheshouldtroublehimselfwithsuchquestions,forifanythingwerecertainunderthesun,itwascertainthattheMemorialneverwouldbefinished.Itwasquiteanaffectingsight,Iusedtothink,toseehimwiththekitewhenitwasupagreatheightintheair.Whathehadtoldme,inhisroom,abouthisbeliefinitsdisseminatingthestatementspastedonit,whichwerenothingbutoldleavesofabortiveMemorials,mighthavebeenafancywithhimsometimes;butnotwhenhewasout,lookingupatthekiteinthesky,andfeelingitpullandtugathishand.Heneverlookedsosereneashedidthen.
