Sometimes,ofanevening,whenIwasathomeandatwork—forIwroteagooddealnow,andwasbeginninginasmallwaytobeknownasawriter—Iwouldlaydownmypen,andwatchmychild-wifetryingtobegood.Firstofall,shewouldbringouttheimmenseaccount-book,andlayitdownuponthetable,withadeepsigh.ThenshewouldopenitattheplacewhereJiphadmadeitillegiblelastnight,andcallJipup,tolookathismisdeeds.
