Finally,hecouldcontrolhimselfnolongerandgavealoudsneeze.
Atthatsneeze,Harlequin,whountilthenhadbeenassadasaweepingwillow,smiledhappilyandleaningtowardtheMarionette,whisperedtohim:
"Goodnews,brothermine! FireEaterhassneezedandthisisasignthathefeelssorryforyou.Youaresaved!"
Forbeitknown,that,whileotherpeople,whensadandsorrowful,weepandwipetheireyes,FireEater,ontheotherhand,hadthestrangehabitofsneezingeachtimehefeltunhappy. Thewaywasjustasgoodasanyothertoshowthekindnessofhisheart.
Aftersneezing,FireEater,uglyasever,criedtoPinocchio:
"Stopcrying!Yourwailsgivemeafunnyfeelingdownhereinmystomachand—E—tchee!—E—tchee!"Twoloudsneezesfinishedhisspeech.
"Godblessyou!"saidPinocchio.
"Thanks!Areyourfatherandmotherstillliving?"demandedFireEater.
"Myfather,yes.MymotherIhaveneverknown."
"YourpoorfatherwouldsufferterriblyifIweretouseyouasfirewood.
