Dumbledorenowtookouthiswandandtappedthreetimesuponthetopofthecasket.Thelidcreakedslowlyopen.Dumbledorereachedinsideitandpulledoutalarge,roughlyhewnwoodencup.Itwouldhavebeenentirelyunremarkablehaditnotbeenfulltothebrimwithdancingblue-whiteflames.
Dumbledoreclosedthecasketandplacedthegobletcarefullyontopofit,whereitwouldbeclearlyvisibletoeveryoneintheHall.
"Anybodywishingtosubmitthemselvesaschampionmustwritetheirnameandschoolclearlyuponaslipofparchmentanddropitintothegoblet,"saidDumbledore."Aspiringchampionshavetwenty-fourhoursinwhichtoputtheirnamesforward.Tomorrownight,Halloween,thegobletwillreturnthenamesofthethreeithasjudgedmostworthytorepresenttheirschools.Thegobletwillbeplacedintheentrancehalltonight,whereitwillbefreelyaccessibletoallthosewishingtocompete.
"Toensurethatnounderagestudentyieldstotemptation,"saidDumbledore,"IwillbedrawinganAgeLinearoundtheGobletofFireonceithasbeenplacedintheentrancehall.Nobodyundertheageofseventeenwillbeabletocrossthisline.
