The Beginning

           Whenhelookedback,evenamonthlater,Harryfoundhehadonlyscatteredmemoriesofthenextfewdays.Itwasasthoughhehadbeenthroughtoomuchtotakeinanymore.Therecollectionshedidhavewereverypainful.Theworst,perhaps,wasthemeetingwiththeDiggory’sthattookplacethefollowingmorning.

           Theydidnotblamehimforwhathadhappened;onthecontrary,boththankedhimforreturningCedric’sbodytothem.Mr.Diggorysobbedthroughmostoftheinterview.Mrs.Diggory’sgriefseemedtobebeyondtears.

           "Hesufferedverylittlethen,"shesaid,whenHarryhadtoldherhowCedrichaddied."Andafterall,Amos...hediedjustwhenhe’dwonthetournament.Hemusthavebeenhappy."

           Whentheygottotheirfeet,shelookeddownatHarryandsaid,"Youlookafteryourself,now."

           Harryseizedthesackofgoldonthebedsidetable.

           Butshebackedawayfromhim.

           "Ohno,it’syours,dear,Icouldn’t...youkeepit."

           HarryreturnedtoGryffindorTowerthefollowingevening.FromwhatHermioneandRontoldhim,Dumbledorehadspokentotheschoolthatmorningatbreakfast.HehadmerelyrequestedthattheyleaveHarryalone,thatnobodyaskhimquestionsorbadgerhimtotellthestoryofwhathadhappenedinthemaze.Mostpeople,henoticed,wereskirtinghiminthecorridors,avoidinghiseyes.Somewhisperedbehindtheirhandsashepassed.
