           ThomasspentthemorningwiththeKeeperoftheGardens,"workinghisbuttoff,"asNewtwould’vesaid.Zartwasthetall,black-hairedkidwho’dstoodatthefrontofthepoleduringBen’sBanishment,andwhoforsomeoddreasonsmelledlikesourmilk.Hedidn’tsaymuch,butshowedThomastheropesuntilhecouldstartworkingonhisown.Weeding,pruninganapricottree,plantingsquashandzucchiniseeds,pickingveggies.Hedidn’tloveit,andmostlyignoredtheotherboysworkingalongsidehim,buthedidn’thateitnearlyasmuchaswhathe’ddoneforWinstonattheBloodHouse.

           ThomasandZartwereweedingalongrowofyoungcornwhenThomasdecideditwasagoodtimetostartaskingquestions.ThisKeeperseemedalotmoreapproachable.
