Ishallnottroublethereaderwithaparticularaccountofthisvoyage,whichwasveryprosperousforthemostpart.WearrivedintheDownsonthe13thofApril,1702.Ihadonlyonemisfortune,thattheratsonboardcarriedawayoneofmysheep;Ifoundherbonesinahole,pickedcleanfromtheflesh.TherestofmycattleIgotsafeashore,andsetthema-grazinginabowling-greenatGreenwich,wherethefinenessofthegrassmadethemfeedveryheartily,thoughIhadalwaysfearedthecontrary:neithercouldIpossiblyhavepreservedtheminsolongavoyage,ifthecaptainhadnotallowedmesomeofhisbestbiscuit,which,rubbedtopowder,andmingledwithwater,wastheirconstantfood.TheshorttimeIcontinuedinEngland,Imadeaconsiderableprofitbyshowingmycattletomanypersonsofqualityandothers:andbeforeIbeganmysecondvoyage,Isoldthemforsixhundredpounds.SincemylastreturnIfindthebreedisconsiderablyincreased,especiallythesheep,whichIhopewillprovemuchtotheadvantageofthewoollenmanufacture,bythefinenessofthefleeces.
Istayedbuttwomonthswithmywifeandfamily,formyinsatiabledesireofseeingforeigncountries,wouldsuffermetocontinuenolonger.
