           Thedayofourdeparturebeingcome,Itookleaveofhishighness,theGovernorofGlubbdubdrib,andreturnedwithmytwocompanionstoMaldonada,where,afterafortnight’swaiting,ashipwasreadytosailforLuggnagg.Thetwogentlemen,andsomeothers,weresogenerousandkindastofurnishmewithprovisions,andseemeonboard.Iwasamonthinthisvoyage.Wehadoneviolentstorm,andwereunderanecessityofsteeringwestwardtogetintothetradewind,whichholdsforabovesixtyleagues.Onthe21stofApril,1708,wesailedintotheriverofClumegnig,whichisaseaporttown,atthesouth-eastpointofLuggnagg.Wecastanchorwithinaleagueofthetown,andmadeasignalforapilot.Twoofthemcameonboardinlessthanhalfanhour,bywhomwewereguidedbetweencertainshoalsandrocks,whichareverydangerousinthepassage,toalargebasin,whereafleetmayrideinsafetywithinacable’slengthofthetown-wall.

           Someofoursailors,whetheroutoftreacheryorinadvertence,hadinformedthepilots"thatIwasastranger,andgreattraveller;"whereofthesegavenoticetoacustom-houseofficer,bywhomIwasexaminedverystrictlyuponmylanding.ThisofficerspoketomeinthelanguageofBalnibarbi,which,bytheforceofmuchcommerce,isgenerallyunderstoodinthattown,especiallybyseamenandthoseemployedinthecustoms.
