SoonaftermyreturnfromLeyden, Iwasrecommendedbymygoodmaster,Mr.Bates, tobesurgeontotheSwallow,CaptainAbrahamPannel,commander; withwhomIcontinuedthreeyearsandahalf,makingavoyageortwointotheLevant, andsomeotherparts. WhenIcamebackIresolvedtosettleinLondon; towhichMr.Bates,mymaster,encouragedme, andbyhimIwasrecommendedtoseveralpatients. ItookpartofasmallhouseintheOldJewry; andbeingadvisedtoaltermycondition,ImarriedMrs.MaryBurton, seconddaughtertoMr.EdmundBurton,hosier,inNewgate-street, withwhomIreceivedfourhundredpoundsforaportion.
